Massachusetts and Rhode Island Wedding Photography by Britt Leigh Photography
Some wedding days feel electric. Others, like Alyssa + Steven’s, feel quietly powerful in the most sacred, and grounded way. Their wedding this past Sunday was the kind of day that invited you to slow down, take a breath, and really be present. Not just as a photographer, but as a human witnessing something deeply meaningful.
These two live in Texas now while Alyssa pursues her doctorate in clinical child psychology (seriously, impressive), but they came back to Massachusetts, where it all began to say “I do.” Their Catholic ceremony took place at Annunciation of the Lord Church in Taunton, where, despite the summer humidity making us all a little glisteny (as even Fr. David Deston pointed out mid ceremony), there was this stillness in the room that made you pause and really take it all in. Their deep connection was felt in every glance and quiet touch.
After the ceremony, we made a meaningful stop that was so important to Alyssa: visiting her nana, who’s currently bedridden. When planning out their wedding day timeline with them, they were okay with skipping it if time ran tight. But I knew that this moment simply could not be missed. We adjusted the timeline to make it happen, and that simple visit became one of the most memorable, emotional parts of the day.
From there, we headed to the Canoe Club Ballroom in West Bridgewater, a beautiful Massachusetts wedding venue with a classic, elegant feel, to celebrate with their closest friends and family.
And the reception? A full-on movie-themed dream. Alyssa + Steven are huge movie buffs (their first date was to see Thor: Ragnarok, and they kept a ranked list of every movie they watched together during their entire first year of dating… how stinkin’ cute is that?!). From the welcome sign designed like a “coming-soon” movie poster, to seating chart tickets and movie-themed tables, to a film-strip cake topper and candy favors representing their favorite sweet treats. It was all personal, creative, and SO them.
The entire wedding color palette felt like a sweet nod to fall with a summer twist: rich navy blues and warm rust oranges, chosen because Steven’s favorite color is orange and Alyssa’s is blue. The guys wore blue suits with playful socks (yes, Steven had Princess Peach socks on, iconic), while Alyssa’s gown sparkled with delicate glitter floral and beading that looked like it was made just for her. The gals wore rust orange floral dresses that tied everything together beautifully.
And just when I thought the day was winding down… someone hit the dance floor in a full inflatable suit (yes, really). I had already packed up, but there was no way I was missing that shot. So I grabbed my camera and jumped right back on the dance floor. The couple had no idea it was coming, and their reactions were PRICELESS.
Alyssa + Steven, thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me to document such an intimate and meaningful day. Your wedding reminded me why I do what I do… why photography matters and why preserving not just the big moments, but the quiet, sacred ones, is so dang important.
